About

THE STORY

Birdhouse Punk began with a vision to use art for good. The world needs art, but even more so, people need basic provisions like food and shelter. And yet, too many community members struggle to secure basic provisions. We started Birdhouse Punk to create and sell functional, artistic birdhouses to help change this reality, which is why all Birdhouse Punk profits go directly to local charitable organizations.

When you purchase a Birdhouse Punk birdhouse, you are not only buying art or benefiting birds, you are giving vital help to those who need it most. This rocks.

THE BIRDHOUSES

Our birdhouses are built from untreated cedar and airbrushed with non-toxic, eco-smart paint. Intended for three main types of birds – wrens, chickadees, and bluebirds – each house is spec’d to accommodate birds safely and comfortably. From the size of the entry portal to the dimensions and geometry of the house, our birdhouses are built with the birds in mind.

Key features like floor holes for drainage, ceiling gaps for air circulation, and sloped roofs for watershed protect birds from the elements. Metal portal guard, mounting bracket, and perch-free entrance protect birds from predators. All houses have ridge cuts inside for birds to easily exit and a swinging/locking side door for simple emptying/cleaning.

THE CHARITIES

See below for a full list of organizations benefiting from Birdhouse Punk sales.

THE ARTIST

Christian Ezell designed, built, and painted each original Birdhouse Punk birdhouse. Christian is a high school English teacher who lives in Madison, Wisconsin with his wife Betsy, daughter Jane, son Finn, and cat Ewok. Christian cares about good art and social justice and believes the two can go hand in hand. When he’s not teaching, he’s undoubtedly mountain biking, snowboarding, coaching soccer, or making art.

Betsy Ezell is happily along for the ride here, applying some marketing and PR skills to share Birdhouse Punk with you all. When she’s not peddling birdhouses or working at her main marketing gig, you can find Betsy behind a microphone. Check out her original jazz music and performance schedule here: www.betsyezell.com.
